Centre for Community Mapping

The Center for Community Mapping seeks to unify and strengthen
communities by offering individuals, non-profit organizations, and
educational institutions the tools to help manage their interests.
Fosters participatory planning, community education, and cooperative
organization. Collaborative mapping supports and facilitates an
integrated approach to environmental conservation, open-space and
historic preservation, neighborhood revitalization and urban planning,
community asset inventories, and economic development as well as
expands awareness of local needs, issues and special places as
determined by the community’s own members.

Open street map

OpenStreetMap is a project aimed squarely at creating and providing
free geographic data such as street maps to anyone who wants them. The
project was started because most maps you think of as free actually
have legal or technical restrictions on their use, holding back people
from using them in creative, productive or unexpected ways.

Serves as a portal for community mapping projects happening collaboratively in countries around the world

 

Environmental Research Mapping and Information Systems in Africa

The network makes it possible for PGIS and community mapping
practitioners working with local resource dependant communities share
knowledge, ideas, experiences, skills and strategies so as to secure
positive intangible cultures, territories and commonly shared natural
resources thereby promoting good PGIS approaches, technologies and
ethics within the region.

Islands in the Salish Sea Community Mapping Project

The Islands
in the Salish Sea Community Mapping Project engaged
over 3,000 people and involved everything from school
kids with clipboards to oral history with elders to
reviews of scientific data. More than 30 local artists
then brought these layers of accumulated information
to life in unique and remarkable maps

understand and that attract observation  -
good for making postcards, posters etc to spread exposure and awareness of visual layout of landscape to broad community.

 

Urban Explorer

Interactive map-based tools for City Planners, Urban Designers, Economic Development
Professionals, community-based and non-profit groups. These GIS
tools are well-suited for collaborative, real-time decision-making,
as assumptions can be quickly tested via the user-friendly map-based
interface. Also, given that the tools are web-based, individual
stakeholders can continuously test assumptions.

interactive, web-based GIS System which city planners and project
managers use to generate customized demographic, project related
reports for any selected area within Miami-Dade County. This tool
will help users determine appropriate public involvement strategies
for identified target populations.
